Lexus LFA Nurburgring sets a Lap Record at the Nordschleife
The news that the Lexus LFA Nurburgring has lapped the track after which it is named in a remarkable 7:14.64 will bring a smile to the face of Hiromu Naruse, wherever he may be. Hiromu Naruse was considers by most whose opinion matters to be the ‘Godfather’ of the Japanese performance car’, and devoted most of the last decade of his life to honing and developing the LFA. He lost his life in an LFA Nurburgring Edition in the Summer of 2010 whilst testing the car near the Nurburgring itself, and it’s nice to think that if he’d still been with us, despite his age, it could well have been Naruse-san at the wheel.

Interbrand, a branding consultancy, delivers a report on the world’s brands every year, and in 2011, despite recall woes and the devastation of the Japanese Tsunami, Toyota leads the automotive brands, with luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz just behind. Interbrand uses three measures to gauge how effective a brand is – performance of branded product, the brands ability to secure earnings and the role of the brand in purchasing decisions – to come up with a chart of the top 100 world brands. At the top of the tree are companies like Coca Cola, IBM, Microsoft and Google, but car brands do well with Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Honda, VW, and Ford all making it in to the top 50.

The North American Ford Fusion has been revealed at Detroit, but we have the first photo of its European cousin – the 2013 Ford Mondeo. We’ve covered the reveal of the 2013 Ford Fusion from the Detroit Auto Show and pointed out that, to all intents and purposes, the Fusion North America gets is pretty much the same car we’ll see as the 2013 Ford Mondeo. But just so there’s no confusion, we’ve got the first photos of the 2013 Mondeo in pre-production guise, just so you can see how similar the Mondeo will be to the Fusion.
